Origami as a Learning Tool

Hands-on activities are often helpful in illustrating abstract concepts and retaining knowledge for a longer period of time. However, this can be sometimes challenging given the size of the class and the availability of problems or exercises. This workshop demonstrated the use of origami, a simple paper folding activity, to engage students and to strengthen students’ critical thinking skills.

At the end of the workshop participants were able to:

  1. Use simple hands-on exercises to engage a large audience
  2. Develop exercises to strengthen students’ critical thinking skills and challenge students to ask the “why” question
