Participants learned, practiced and deployed evidence based coaching tools as individual interventions to increase student’s self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation. Faculty increased their comfort and competency to facilitate self-directed and self-regulated learning on the part of our students. Students seize their own destiny, raise their awareness and responsibility and they will increase the likelihood of their own success in the classroom and in life. Asking powerful questions and reinforcing a student’s own change talk were demonstrated in this workshop.
At the conclusion of this program participants were able to:
- Deploy coaching using the GROW model, The Decision Balance, and Instant Influence.
- Identify students own self talk that promotes positive change and that which sustains unproductive behavior.
- Understand the transtheoretical stage model of change and be able to specify at least one intervention appropriate at each level of change.
